“Ooh, Mom, garbanzo beans! Yum! Whatcha making?”
“Hummus. Garlic hummus.”
“Oh bummer. I don’t like hummus.”
“Its ok, I loaded this one with garlic since I know you don’t like it.”
I enjoy hummus, unlike my daughter who prefers her garbanzos whole. I don’t enjoy paying an arm and a leg for it, though. And I really love garlic. The store kind never has enough garlic for my taste. They usually taste burnt to me, which is a sure sign they used jarred diced garlic. Yuck.
I decided to try my hand at making my own. I found a recipe by Womanista Wellness that I used as my base. I added five more cloves of garlic, because, well, garlic. And I added a splash of olive oil and sweet paprika on top to make it pretty! Check out the original base recipe below.
This was really tasty with carrots and celery, but I’m betting a nice soft pita would be pretty yummy, too…or maybe using it as a spread on a veggie sandwich? Oh yeah…I’m on that…
Have you made hummus before? How did you make yours? I’m looking forward to trying different flavors this summer. Leave me a comment below the related posts listed under the recipe. I’d love to hear from you!
